How To Quickly Increase Your Open Rate

I want to share a quick way for you to increase your email open rates. How To Quickly Increase Your Open Rate

It’s something you should always be doing to make sure your message is being seen by the most possible amount of people on your list. (Unless you don’t care if they see your message or not but who does that?)

The great thing is it will only take you about 2 minutes yet for some reason, more people aren’t’ doing it.

When we look at all of our clients we see average email open rates anywhere from 15% to 50% when sending to their “master list”.

That’s a big difference, right?

But here’s the thing…even if you have 50% of people opening your emails (which is damn good), that’s 50% that is still NOT opening your emails.

So say you have a list of 20,000 people.

That’s 10,000 people that aren’t even seeing what you’re trying to share.

That’s sad, isn’t it?

I mean, they signed up to get your content and many still aren’t seeing it.

What you shouldn’t do.

Some people just accept the fact that “that’s the way it is” and call it a day.

No!

Why just accept that fact that some people won’t open your email?

Especially, when you can spend an extra 2 minutes and watch your open rates increase anywhere by 10% to 50%.

Even if you’re crushing it that’s one out of every TWO people that aren’t reading your email.

Come on, we can do better than that!

What you should do – Resend To Unopens

The other month I sent out an email to a segment of our list to get some feedback on something. Here’s how the open rates looked.

35% open, not bad. I was happy with that.

But look…there were 623 people that still didn’t see that email.

So, two days later I sent the same email to those 623 people but with a different subject line.

Another 79 people opened the email.

While I would have liked that to be higher, that’s another 79 people that now saw the email.

I learned about this from Noah Kagan a while back and have no started testing this on every broadcast and it’s always gotten more opens by sending it.

Noah recommends doing it a week later which will be my next test as I usually do it within 2-3 days after the initial send. I’ll be sure to update the results next time.

Here’s how you can do this in 2 steps.

Step 1: Schedule an email to only those that didn’t open your email the first time and change the subject line. (I sometimes change a few other things slightly but I spend no more than a minute or two on this).

Step 2: Email your unopens with the new email anywhere from 2-7 days later.

It will literally take you just a few minutes and you’ll reach more of your audience.

That’s it.

Super simple right?

I tried this, too, after reading about it on Noah’s blog and it works amazingly well! Sometimes I have a few thousand more people open my emails the second time around. Not bad for two minutes’ worth of work!

Where is the screen shot of ‘complaints’? I’d be curios to know if that increased on round two…

I haven’t experienced complaints from our list as of yet nor have I seen it on some of the others we’re seeing use this. In most cases, the person is not seeing the first email hence why you target them again at a later date.
